The Southernmost point of Africa is bordered by the warm and Balmy Indian Ocean on the East, and by the cold tempestuous Atlantic on the West. Having travelled South Africa extensively for the last 25 years I am still sometimes left with the feeling that my own country is relatively unexplored.
From the Cape of Good Hope to the Kruger National Park in the Lowveld, South Africa can provide the experienced traveller with hundreds of new experiences and delight all with the shear abundance and variety of life found in the 8 different Biomes.
The sub- tropical East coast with its lush and humid forests slowly becomes the temperate yellow wood forests of the Garden route, an area so beautiful it seems to have been a giant landscaper’s construct.
Then before you have noticed, the trees and forests are replaced by mountains covered in low lying shrubs with an overwhelming variety of flowers called fynbos.
The Lowveld is a harshly beautiful environment extending from Mozambique to Natal this 200 km wide passage of bush is home to the Greater Kruger Park. This World renowned reserve has several private concessions and reserves that are open and adjacent to the park, enjoy the big five and a plethora of animals, birds and plants in an environment that seems to have remained unchanged in millennia.
If you only have the chance to visit one country in Africa it should definitely be South Africa.
